Russian director Timur Bekmambetov has been linked to several films in recent weeks. The gang at Empire recently spoke with him about all of them..
First up is "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" which he is prepping to direct himself and describes the tone in the vein of his Russian hit "Night Watch". He hopes to turn that property into a franchise - "there will be many opportunities to develop and explore this world if we get to do sequels. I hope we will start this winter. We are shooting in America."
Wanted 2 is still on the drawing board but will likely go after 'Lincoln' due to star James McAvoy's commitment to "X-Men: First Class". He has penned a treatment for "Red Asphalt", a 3-D horror film about drunk driving described as "one big car chase".
He has also written a treatment for "The Knights Templar" however he only intends to produce that. While an English-language remake of Black Lightning which he also would only produce is being discussed with the suits at Universal Pictures.
Still in very early development and/or scripting stages are his "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea " adaptation and his more mystical take on "Moby Dick". He also hopes to get around to "Twilight Watch" one day, while The Last Witch Hunter pic is in limbo
