Diane Lane will play Martha Kent, the only mother Clark Kent has ever known, in Superman: Man of Steel says The Hollywood Reporter.
Of the casting dirctor Zack Snyder states, “This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”
Lane will star opposite Henry Cavill, who plays Clark Kent/Superman
Lane is only the second official piece of confirmed casting in reboot
Been a fan of Lane since I first saw her when I was a teenager in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders , right up through Unfaithful (which garnered her a Best Actress Oscar nomination), and beyond
At last report Kevin Costner playing Pa Kent and Viggo Mortensen as Zod but no serious movement has happened since then. Mortensen's deal for "Snow White and the Huntsman" is looking to be a done deal which would rule him out for "Superman" due to conflicting shooting schedules.
David S. Goyer is writing the screenplay based on a story by Goyer and Christopher Nolan
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Nolan and Deborah Snyder are producers on the film that is scheduled for a December 2012 release
