After taking a five-year break from films to focus on his band, 30 Seconds to Mars, Jared Leto is making a return to acting with a role in the biopic "The Dallas Buyer's Club" says THR.
The film is the true story of Ron Woodroof, (Matthew McConaughey) a tough Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given six months to live. Frustrated with the lack of available medical options and unwilling to accept a death sentence, Woodroof found a lifeline using alternative drugs and created a lucrative smuggling business that made those drugs available to AIDS patients. He died in 1992.
Leto will play a cross-dresser.This is the role that Gael Garcia Bernal was due to play---an effeminate member of the club and a fellow AIDS patient who meets Woodroof in Jennifer Garner takes over for Hilary Swank who was linked to the project. But has moved on.
Jean-Marc Vallée will direct the drama Craig Borten and Melissa Wallack wrote the screenplay
Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling were gonna star in the pic at different points along the way with helmers Marc Forster and Craig Gillespie also circling the biopic
Robbie Brenner, Rachel Rothman-Winter, and Nathan Ross will produce the film.
Production kicks off in New Orleans next week
