Paramount has announced that they will premiere the opening nine minutes from J.J. Abrams’ "Star Trek Into Darkness" on 500 IMAX 3D screens in front of "The Hobbit: An Expected Journey" starting December 14th says THR
Several sequences of the film were shot using IMAX cameras, including this opening sequeces.
While "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises" previewed their opening sequences in IMAX before, this will mark the first time exclusive footage has played in IMAX 3D.

Both of the 'Knight' films released a teaser trailer to premiere in regular theaters at the same time, there's no word as yet if Trek 2 will do the same.
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin John Cho and Bruce Greenwood have all returned to the Final Frontier in their respective roles as Kirk Spock Uhura Dr. McCoy Scotty Chekov Sulu and Admiral Pike.
The crew will face off with Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch's baddie who might just be a version of Khan Noonien Singh in the film? Who knows?
The Supporting Cast Includes Nazneen Contractor who will play the wife of Noel Clarke’s family man character Alice Eve has a major role as does former "Robocop" star Peter Weller and actor/stuntman Joseph Gatt. Original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" star Heather Langenkamp has a small part in the film as well.
Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof wrote the script for director J.J. Abrams.
The sequel will be produced by Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison.
The film will be released May 17, 2013 in 3D.
