Described as a "modern day fairytale" with suspense and fantasy noir elements weaved in, the story is set in a vanishing city where a single mother of two (Christina Hendricks) is "swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town". The pair must solve the mystery if they're all to survive.
The motion picture will mark Ryan Gosling's writing and directing debut
Marc Platt will produce the film
Mendelsohn worked with Gosling on the upcoming The Place Beyond the Pines.
Fiming on 'Monster' kicks off in May.
