John Lithgow will take over for Michael Gambon in the Ira Sachs-directed indie drama "Love Is Strange" says Deadline.
Much like his acclaimed semi-autobiographical drama "Keep the Lights On," the story explores the romantic ups and downs of a gay relationship--except that "Strange" deals with an older, married couple (Lithgow and Alfred Molina). The pair play longtime partners forced to live separately after their New York City wedding.
Gambon had to drop out of the film due to scheduling conflicts.
Kelly Reilly ("Flight) and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts play a married Park Slope couple whose relationship is turned upside down when their elderly uncle (Lithgow) is forced to move in with them. Meantime Jorge (Molina) moves in with Ted (Cheyenne Jackson) and his partner Nahlin, who are both police officers
Sachs and his 'Lights' co-writer Mauricio Zacharias wrote the script.
Sachs, Lucas Joaquin, Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy will produce.
Production begins in August.
