Deadline is reporting that Christopher Walken will star in Clint Eastwood's film version of the Award-winning Broadway musical "Jersey Boys".
The musical written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice chronicles the pop group Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons and their journey to fame. The group sold 175 million records worldwide before any of the members turned 30.
Vincent Piazza, John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, and Michael Lomenda (who played Nick Massi in the Toronto production of Jersey Boys) are poised to play the leads.
Jon Favreau was attached as director but had moved on and then Clint stepped in.
John Logan is writing the film adaptation.
The show has pulled in over $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide, and this film will use much of the same music from the stage show.
Walken will play the role of Angelo "Gyp" DeCarlo, the Jersey mobster who, in the show, served an unofficial consigliere role to the young singers as they tried to build their careers without falling into the grip of organized crime.
Graham King and Tim Headington are producing the pic.
Production begins mid-September in Los Angeles.
