After making $30 million domestically this past weekend, "The Best Man Holiday" filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee is talks with Universal Pictures for a third installment says Deadline.
Opening in 1999, "The Best Man" was dubbed a male-centric "Waiting to Exhale" and became a surprise minor success.
Reviews were good, and the movie made $34 million from just a $9 million budget.
Fourteen years later, the $17 million-budgeted sequel received an A+ CinemaScore from filmgoers. The opening was the fifth-largest ever opening for an R-rated romantic comedy.
Lee would write, direct and produce the film with Sean Daniel.
The cast wasn't optioned for a third film, so re-negotiations are gonna happen.
The success of 'Holiday' has made the third film a priority at the studio--thus Lee is expected to get to work writing it soon.
