Based on author Deborah Moggach's book, set in 17th century, the story follows the love affair between a man and a woman (Dane DeHaan and Alicia Vikander) at a time when Dutch painters were creating masterpieces and a tulip bulb cost ten times the average annual salary.
Dench will play the Abbess of St. Ursula, Morrison a drunken bohemian artist and Victoria's Secret beauty Cara Delevingne will play Annetje his model. Prince Harry's ex Bonas will take on the role of Mrs. Steen, a merchant’s young wife.
Jack O'Connell, Holliday Grainger, Christoph Waltz and Zach Galifianakis also star in the film.
Justin Chadwick (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) will direct using Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”)'s adapted script.
Alison Owen will produce the film.
