Jeremy Renner revealed to Yahoo that he's all but
set to reprise his role of William Brandt in the action sequel Mission: Impossible 5.
Renner played the role in 2011's "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," as one of the four key team members in the film opposite Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton. Cruise and Pegg are
already confirmed for MI 5.
Renner is currently at work on Joss Whedon's superhero team up sequel "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" and was asked about the possibility of joining HBO's hit series "True Detective":
"It's kind of unlikely. In fact, I'm kind of strapped
time-wise doing Avengers 2, and Mission: Impossible 5 is rearing its
head, and then they want to do another Bourne movie. It's unlikely I can
find the time right now. And that's all right. It's just really
high-class problems - pretty awesome to have. Even if I really wanted to
do it, which I don't, I couldn't."
Christopher McQuarrie ("Jack Reacher") is directing MI #5 from a script by video game scribe Will Staples
Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty," "The Help") is rumored to be wanted for the role of the female lead, though her involvement
hasn't been confirmed.
The goal is to begin filming in August for a Christmas 2015 release.
