Sally Hawkins has joined the comedy/drama "We Want Sex" Variety.
The film's story follows the real life 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant when 850 female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination over performance evaluations. Their actions helped bring about equal pay for women in the workplace. During the protest, the strike committee was invited to tea by employment secretary Barbara Castle where that issue was raised for the first time. During one march the women carried a banner proclaiming "We Want Sex Equality", only to later realize the last word was missing...
Imelda Staunton ("Nanny McPhee," "Vera Drake") is in negotiations to play Castle.
Simon Curtis will direct from a script by William Ivory. Production is expected to begin by June.
Not exactly the Norma Rae of 30 years ago is it?
