Sony Pictures is in talks with "Chronicle" director Josh Trank to call action on a spin-off film "Venom" reports The Los Angeles Times.
Very little is known about the film A few years ago, "Zombieland" scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick took a crack at a script, before writer/director Gary Ross got in line.
The character got its start as a popular villian in Marvel comics and appeared in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, played by Topher Grace (who won't be returning for the new pic).
Plans for a "Venom" film have been in the works for almost five years now.
Jacob Aaron Estes wrote the previous draft of the script but a new writer and script will be used.
A few months ago Trank's mame came up to helm the Fantastic Four film series reboot. Talk that Trank quickly nixed.
