The story follows a group of men and women who chased down the stolen art of Europe during World War II .
Clooney directs, will produce and will co-write the screenplay with Grant Heslov. He also stars as George Stout, a U.S. Army officer and leading art conservationist, who repatriated tens of thousands of pieces of art from the Nazis.
Clooney also is said to want Cate Blanchett and Paul Giamatti for roles in the film,
Production will take place in Germany, Austria, Paris and England next spring.
