Fast 7: A Revenge Tale...

Out on the stump for Friday's The Conjuring "Saw" and "Insidious" director James Wan talked about taking over the Fast and the Furious film franchise. Chris Morgan writes the script for Fast & Furious 7 which Neal H. Moritz will produce.

Wan says he plans to switch up the formula of the series yet again for this sequel which will see Jason Statham's Ian Shaw character out for revenge against Dominic and Brian (Vin Diesel and Paul Walker).

Wan tells The Playlist:

"I really like the theme of this next one that we're going with. I can't really talk about it, but I like the theme; it's one that I really relate to. Then there's the drive of Number Seven, which was set up at the end of Number 6, which is a classic revenge story. I'm a big [genre] fan, so that's how I'm approaching [it]. I'm looking at it like a gritty, 1970s revenge thriller, but one that still fits into the 'Fast and Furious' series."

Production on Fast 7 kicks off in Los Angeles later  this year.
