Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are planning for a Godzilla sequel.
After making a robust $196 million dollars worldwide--the news is not a surprise at all--The Gareth Edwards ("Monsters") directed reboot could double the $379 million global gross of the truly awful 1998 film by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin.
Edwards has talked about the potential for a sequel and
indicated he would likely use the same restrained approach he adopted in the new film - keeping the monster mostly in the background until the last act.
It's unknown if any of the surviving characters/cast from the first film will return .
