Deadline reports that Oculus director Mike Flanagan will helm a film adaptation of author Stephen King's novel "Gerald's Game".
The story revolves around a lawyer named Gerald and his wife Jessie who have gone for a romantic getaway in a secluded cabin in western Maine. The couple's sex life has been reinvigorated by his recent trend of handcuffing her to the bed. When Jessie balks at the idea this time, she defends herself from his forcefulness, in the process accidentally killing him. Now, trapped and alone, she must confront long-buried demons within her own mind and possibly lurking in the shadows of her seemingly empty house.
Flanagan and Jeff Howard wrote the adapted script.
Trevor Macy is set to produce the film.
Flanagan and Macy had originally planned "Diver" as their next film, but that has been pushed back. 'Game' takes priority with casting underway.
Production is set to begin this Fall.
