Mary Steenburgen Halts "A Walk In The Woods"

Deadline says that Mary Steenburgen has joined the cast of the film adaptation of author Bill Bryson's 1998 lightly comedic travel memior "A Walk in the Woods".

 
Robert Redford will star and produce the film which involves two boyhood friends who go their separate ways and come back later in life for an outdoor adventure - a walk along the Appalachian Trail. Nick Nolte will co-star as the other friend.

Emma Thompson, Nick Offerman and Kristen Schaal will co-star

Steenburgen will play an alluring motel owner who tempts Redford when he stops at her establishment for the night.

Redford oversaw a number of drafts of the adapted screenplay, which Michael Arndt and Richard Russo have worked on. Redford first acquired the movie rights in 2005. Larry Charles, Chris Columbus and Barry Levinson have been in negotiations to direct at various points along the way

Ken Kwapis is directing the film--taking over for the previously set Richard Linklater

Jay Stern, Chip Diggins and Bill Holderman also produce.

Production is now underway.
