Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, and Saoirse Ronan are in final negotiations to star in Peter Weir's The Way Back, reports Variety.
The film is the fact-based story, based on SÅ‚awomir Rawicz 's memoir The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom, and the story of a group of soldiers who engineered a grueling escape from a Siberian gulag in 1942.
Farrell plays a tough, tattooed Russian; Harris an American; and Sturgess portrays a young Polish inmate. Ronan will play a Russian on the run who meets up with the fugitives.
Weir who has a penchant for telling dramatic sometimes lush tales Gallipoli, Dead Poets Society, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and The Truman Show has assembled an eclectic cast for this one... It's hard to believe that his last film came out in '03
Production is scheduled to begin in March in Bulgaria.
