Woodley Offered MJ For Spidey Sequel; Bad Guy Revealed?

Shailene Woodley, the actress who broke out as George Clooney's daughter The Descendants, is in early talks to join "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" says The Hollywood Reporter.

Andrew Garfield is already set to return as Peter Parker and Emma Stone in talks to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy.

Woodley has been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson, the perennial red-headed love interest of Pater Parker in the Spidey comics. The role was previously played by Kirsten Dunst in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy.

Woodley is a fine actress but to be honest I don't quite see her as MJ--then again--Dunst didn't quite nail her compared to the comic book created persona either. We shall see...

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner are writing the script based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. "The Amazing Spider-Man" director Marc Webb will be back calling action.

Sony Pictures has also sent out character breakdowns to talent agencies, and on the list are Electro, a villain who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning--and since we saw lightning in the post-credits scene in the last pic that COULD mean he's gonna be the bad guy. Also on the list is Harry Osborn, Peter Parker's best friend and eventual enemy who was played by James Franco previously.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.

The new film is due to begin production early next year to meet its May 2nd 2014 release date.
