Gilliam's “Don Quixote" Lives Again Starring John Hurt
During a Q&A at the recent Derby Film Festival, actor John Hurt revealed that director Terry Gilliam asked him to star in the long-gestating passion project “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" .
The story follows an advertising executive who jumps back and forth in time between 21st century London and 17th century La Mancha, where Don Quixote--the main character in author Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's book mistakes him for Sancho Panza
.
Robert Duvall was previously attached to play Quixote back in 2010.
Gilliam has tried to make this $35 million feature starring Johnny Depp as as the executive since 2000, but the film famously fell apart. Then, Gilliam pegged Ewan McGregor to star trying to get it going again, this time with a smaller $20 million budget
Gilliam hopes to start filming later this year.
