A bunch of new Hollywood bits o news

*Richard Blaney and Gregory Small. original teen thriller screenplay "Someone in the Dark" has been scooped up with Carlos Brooks ("Quid Pro Quo") attached to direct says THR

*Director Guillermo del Toro tells Total Film that after nearly a year, much of the design work for The Hobbit films is now finished.

*Ryne Douglas Pearson is attached to write an adaptation of the Warren Ellis' comic book series "Black Summer" for the big screen says Variety.

*David Goyer told MTV that Ghost Rider 2 is "... a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider."

The film is set eight years after the first film and will begin shooting in 2010... And even better news--He Is Moving Forward With Green Arrow Film Supermax ...!!

*Nicole Kidman's peeps have denied the news that she's involved in the Robert Pattinson-led period piece "Bel Ami". The rep says the film is "categorically not happening for her"...

*The cast of "Area 51", Oren Peli's first film after the success of Paranormal Activity grows says BloodyD

*Mark Rosenthal will write the film adaptation of Ian Beck's young-adult family adventure "The Secret History of Tom Trueheart" says THR.

The story centres on an adventurer in a mythical land who must rescue his more seasoned older brothers when they go missing.

*Prince of Persia" game creator Jordan Mechner has added an audio commentary to the recent "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" trailer via IGN

*Screen Media Films has acquired worldwide rights to Adam Kane's political thriller "Formosa Betrayed," starring James Van Der Beek (pictured) says THR.

A limited release in February is planned.

*Hideo Nakata (Ringu) has signed on to direct the independent supernatural thriller "Voice From the Stone" says Variety.

*Stephen Frears will direct "Lay the Favorite, Take the Dog" says Reuters.

*Director Ken Loach and cinematographer Chris Menges will reunite on the pic "Irish Route" says The Hollywood Reporter.

*The Marc Haimes' family action script "Jitters" has been purchased says Variety. The Gremlins -esque story centers on a dysfunctional, recession-struck family that moves into a new neighborhood and is terrorized by superbugs...

*Djimon Hounsou will star in "Elephant White" says Variety. He portrays an assassin hired by a businessman to avenge the murder of his daughter by white slave traders in Thailand. Shooting takes place in March in Bangkok.

*Craig Brewer has been mentioned on the Risky Biz Blog as a potential replacement for the departed Kenny Ortega in the director's chair of the Footloose update starring Chace Crawford and Julianne Hough.

*Earlier reports that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are in negotiations to star in "Fury Road," the next "Mad Max:" pic have been confirmed!!???

*The Lizard, the evil incarnation of Dylan Baker's Curt Conners character, could be the ONLY villain in Spider-Man 4 says MarketSaw...While MTV talked with Willem Dafoe about the Green Goblin's return to the series: "Let's put it this way — no one's called--'I Think It's Possible'"

*Method Man will star in Gareth Maxwell Roberts' "The Mortician 3D" a gritty gangster film currently in pre-production in Louisiana. via Twitter

*Jeffrey Dean Morgan will star in "The Courier" with Hany Abu-Assad directing also via Twitter

*Julien Temple is set to direct "Fake!", an upcoming biopic on famed art fraudster Elmyr de Hory says Reuters.

*According to MTV, Robert Zemeckis was able to convince the writers of the original Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman, to return to pen the sequel.

Nothing else is known about the storyline, but with the entire original team getting back together and Zemeckis’ new talent for 3-D animation it probably will happen.
