Beyond The End

Director Roland Emmerich tells Entertainment Weekly that a dramatic television series spin-off is already in development that serves as a sequel to the apocalyptic action epic "2012" set to open next Friday-November 13th.

Veteran TV producer Mark Gordon is on board to shepherd the show talking with ABC to air the disaster drama.

MOJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE FILM - CAUTION!!

The pic's ending has several ark shaped-ships surviving the end--heading toward one of the few remaining stable land masses to have survived - in this case the African continent.

Emmerich:

"The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster. It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating. [The series] will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats... maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving."

Would the network really want to do another "island show" ala Lost...If the film bombs I'd be surprised if the series happened at all....

Gordon adds "there are some people who survive and the question is how will these survivors build a new world and what will it look like."
