Demián Bichir has signed on to star in Mexican film "Hidalgo-Moliere" says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story focuses on Hidalgo's early years in the theater and his rise to leading the Mexican War of Independence in the early 1800s.
Antonio Serrano calls action and Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre) co-stars.
Shooting begins today in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Bichir is also in talks for a key role in a pic about Leona Sanchez, a young Colombian woman who rises to power as the leader of a South Florida gang, Los Curramberos.
Bichir would play Pedro, the gang leader who takes Leona as his girlfriend without realizing the scope of her ambition.
The Sanchez project--currently titled Lady Scarface is being directed by Ernest Dickerson from a screenplay by Tony Puryear and Susannah Grant.
Shooting kicks off on that pic early next year in Spain.
