Tone Deaf

Composer Danny Elfman has been relieved of scoring duties on the upcoming big budget pic The Wolf Man according to Cinemusic.net and The Playlist.

This, even as Elfman had apparently already written an entire score...in the vein of Wojciech Kilar's work on the early 90's Dracula film.

The constant schedule changes--it was first supposed to be released Feb. 13 of this year, then was moved to April 3, and then Nov. 6. Finally, the film is supposed to claw into theaters Feb. 12 of next year--are said to be the cause but I don't buy that...

Joe Johnston, director of The Wolf Man, had been enthusiastic about potentially hiring Elfman as his composer. With the date (hopefully) nailed down--what scheduling conflicts could there be--especially if the bulk of the work has been completed?

Paul Haslinger (Underworld, Death Race, Vacancy, and Crank) has been brought in to do the film's soundtrack and as someone who who was part of the 80’s synth-rock group Tangerine Dream--Things should be vastly different in the score department...

Elfman and Johnston probably had differing opinions and parted company on the pic...

The music used in the film's most recent trailer supports my theory....

Haslinger has his work cut out on this one. He is set to begin recording in January to meet the film's February 13th, 2010, release date. Close Shave indeed...
