Willing And Woe

It's a Will Smith 2 fer one post:

Smith will star in and produce a remake of Flowers For Algernon an adaptation of Daniel Keyes' classic 1959 novel says Pajiba.

The story centers on a mentally disabled man who is the first to undergo a surgery that is said to raise intelligence. While the operation is successful, and his IQ raises from 68 to 185, the side effects include social setbacks where he feels ostracized from society.

No writer or director has yet been set though The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds director, Gabriele Muccino, may once again collaborate with the Philly native on the new version.

Smith is clearly hoping to increase his Oscar odds on this pic And there's good reason to think that might happen...

Several screen adaptations have been made over the years--most notably Ralph Nelson's Charly, which nabbed Cliff Robertson an Oscar in 1968.

Meanwhile--Smith's collaboration with Steven Spielberg on the planned Hollywood remake of the acclaimed cult Korean revenge thriller-- Chan-wook Park's Oldboy--is dead reports Latino Review.

The story says Dreamworks and Mandate Pictures were in the process of obtaining the rights to the original manga on which the film was going to be based but the companies couldn't come to an agreement.

DreamWorks opted out losing Smith and Spielberg
