In a press release (via Deadline), the AMPAS announced that Murphy has withdrawn as host as well
In a statement Murphy says “First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”
Clearly Rat had to go; his bout with diarrhea of the mouth saw no end....with some 4 months to go before the telecast...The Academy learned omce again that going younger isn't always better
The organization announced late today that film-producer Brian Grazer has been named as Rat's replacement on this season’s Academy Awards telecast, the obvious question is: Who will he get to host?
How bout Tom Hanks? The two-time Best Actor winner has collaborated with Grazer on four feature films (Splash, Apollo 13, The Da Vinci Code films as well as the mini-series From the Earth to the Moon)
Grazer joins Don Mischer, who is already on board as a producer of the show.
"Brian Grazer is a renowrned filmmaker who over the past 25 years has produced a diverse and extraordinary body of work," Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak said in a statement on Wednesday. "He will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships to the Oscars."
“It’s very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career,” Grazer’s statement read. “Don is a legend, and I am excited to work with him.”
