Michael Apted is stepping in to complete the last 15 days of principle photography for Curtis Hanson's surfing drama Of Men And Mavericks, says Deadline.
Hanson experienced complications from recent heart surgery, which makes him incapable of finishing the production. As a result Apted is taking over, but it known if the move will carry over into the post-production phase. Hanson is expected to fully recover.
The story follows Jay Moriarity (Jonny Weston), a Santa Cruz native who found his calling in the world of surfing at a young age and flourished under the guidance of local elder Rick “Frosty” Hesson (Gerard Butler). Moriarty passed away the day before his 23rd birthday in a free-diving accident in the Maldives.

Shooting on the film is now scheduled to wrap sometime next month and should still be able to meet a US release date of 26 October 2012.
In the meantime I’d like to wish Mr. Hanson a speedy recovery. Get well soon sir!
