Renner Talks New Bourne

Jeremy Renner talked to Empire about taking the lead in writer/director Tony Gilroy's The Bourne Legacy--who he is playing and how would the new film fits into the existing universe.


Renner is playing a new character within the Bourne universe, an agent in a different covert government program than the one Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne was trapped in. Damon will not appear in the film his character will be a presence in the new franchise restarter.

"My character is called Aaron Cross, but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [the film] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new programme and new characters."

He adds that Treadstone still involved by saying "Yeah, it's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash. It's the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you'll know it's a Bourne movie."

Rachel Weisz also stars as the female lead while Edward Norton is set to play the villain Oscar Isaac plays a brainwashed assassin named 'Number 3' While Joan Allen and Albert Finney have signed on to reprise their roles from the original Bourne films. And Stacy Keach has joined the cast of the film as a new as yet unknown character.

Frank Marshall, Jeffrey M. Weiner and Ben Smith will produce.the new Bourne

The reboot has an August 3rd 2012 bow
