Tomb Raider Redux Starts Over

Producer Graham King tells Coming Soon that the Tomb Raider reboot will be an origin tale in the vain of “Casino Royale” or “Batman Begins.”

The game series, started in 1996, followed Lara Croft--After four increasingly panned sequels, the games were themselves rebooted.

Angelina Jolie, her estranged dad Jon Voight and Daniel Craig starred in the 2001 film . The sequel hit theaters in 2003.

The first film scored boffo $275 million in international box-office. The sequel revenue sank with a thud of $157 million globally

Listen, the box office, they weren’t disasters but I find it interesting that the story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece,” King told the site

It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot. "

Iron Man writers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus are tasked to pen the reboot
