West Generates "Heat"

Simon West will direct a remake of "Heat" says Deadline.

Wait! What?

No, he is not redoing Michael Mann's 1995 crime thriller classic. This film is based on the Burt Reynolds-led 1986 action film of the same name about an ex-mercenary turned Vegas bouncer.

William Goldman, who wrote the original film, is also writing the remake.

The updated pic will see a tough recovering gambling addict (Jason Statham) who makes a living providing protection. When a dear friend is brutally beaten by a high-rolling mobster, he helps her get her revenge and he ends up in more trouble than he ever imagined.

Brian De Palma was previously linked to helm but has vacated.

West and Statham previously worked together on another remake, last year's "The Mechanic".

Production kicks off in February.
