Mission: Impossible 5 Gets "Call of Duty" Scribe

THR reports that Will Staples, best known for his writing work on video game hits like "Need for Speed Rivals" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" has been hired to write the script for the action sequel Mission: Impossible 5.

"Iron Man 3" scripter Drew Pearce was tasked with doing the job initially--It isn't known if Staples is redrafting that screenplay or starting over for director Christopher McQuarrie ("Jack Reacher") .

Tom Cruise will star again as special operative Ethan Hunt in the sequel--which reunites Cruise with his "Reacher" writer/director.

Simon Pegg is coming back as tech specialist Benji Dunn.  It's unknown if two more key Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol cast members, Jeremy Renner or Paula Patton, will be back.

Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty," "The Help") is rumored to be wanted for a role--she was due to work with Cruise on "Oblivion," but scheduling issues got in the way and Olga Kurylenko ultimately took her place.

The goal is to begin filming in August for a Christmas 2015 release.
