Buried At The Gate

After its Saturday night premiere, Lionsgate, Fox Searchlight and Sony Pictures-based Screen Gems were all locked in an intense overnight battle for rights to the film Buried says THR .

Ryan Reynolds headlines the thriller from Spanish director Rodrigo Cortés.

Reynolds plays a civilian contractor who's kidnapped in Iraq and awakens buried in a coffin in the desert.

Once Searchlight pulled out, Lionsgate brought their A game and was able to beat out Screen Gems for North American rights to the film for about $4 million.

Jason Constantine, Lionsgate's president of acquisitions and co-productions, said in a statement: "Buried is a powerful reminder that all you really need for an unforgettable movie experience is a great story, inventive filmmaking and brilliant acting,"
