JC II

Although not a sequel to Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ--"The Resurrection of the Christ" will go even further in terms of exploring the subject matter reports Variety.

Indie film producer Bill McKay is developing the $20 million project with Samuel Goldwyn Films which has scheduled the picture for an Easter 2011 release.

Jonas McCord will direct from Dan Gordon's screenplay which follows the power, greed and ambition of those involved in the Crucifiction of Jesus Christ Pontius Pilate, Herod, Joseph Caiphas and Judas Iscariot.

"It's as much about the key players as it is about Jesus. We want to bring in the 'Gladiator' dimension of the first century against the political milieu of the time" says McKay.

Filming will kick off in July and shoot over ten weeks across Israel, Morocco and Europe.
