Now that Marc Webb has signed on to direct the "Spider-Man" reboot, we are learning more about Sony's plans for the films going forward
The Risky Business blog says Webb is only signed to helm one pic with an option for at least two more.
The budget: The initial production estimates have the budget standing at a very modest $80 million. By way of comparison, the first Sam Raimi "Spider-Man" in 2002 cost $140 million while Spider-Man 3 cost $260 million.
The cast will be relative unknowns, while the storyline will not be based on the classic comics of the 60's which Raimi used instead using the recent Ultimate Spider-Man book by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley adapted for the screen by James Vanderbilt.
That series centered on Spidey in high school with as much teen angst as saving the world plot.
The villains will likely to be adapted to better fit that environment, while the character arcs will move a lot slower to allow the studio to spread things across more sequels.
I enjoyed reading the Bendis' run books... I just wonder if audiences are ready to go back to HS with the characters and the Raimi trilogy still fresh in their minds.
