On the red carpet, during the The National Board of Review event in New York, director Ivan Reitman talked with MTV about Ghostbusters III.
Screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are working on a second draft of the script.
“They have delivered a draft, we are working our way through another draft… good work is being done and we all have our fingers crossed”
He also confirmed that he would indeed be returning to the directors’ chair for the sequel.
Original cast members Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis are said to be ready to return--with Sigourney Weaver waiting to read a script.
He also commented on Weaver's recent suggestions that her character's son from Ghostbusters II would return as a buster and that Murray's character Peter Venkman would appear as a slimer ghost
“I’m not going to comment on what’s in the script and on what Sigourney may or may not have said. She’s been so busy on ‘Avatar’ I’ve not been able to find her. There’s some very cool things in the new draft, let’s just put it that way.”
A 2011 release is penciled in.
