Actor Jonah Hill tells Coming Soon that they hope to shoot the film adaptation of the classic 80's TV series "21 Jump Street" some time this year.
The film's script written by Michael Bacall and Joe Gazzam will keep the same basic premise as the series, rookie cops who go undercover as students in a high school--but the tone of the pic will not be a parody as many folks expect.
"It's a John Hughes movie with Bad Boys style action," he promises. "I really love the Back to the Future aspect of getting to relive a certain period of your life. But we're not doing something serious like Miami Vice! It's a funny movie, with a real story. I wouldn't make it if it wouldn't be awesome" says Hill.
I actually agree with the approach and desired intent here...Parody will only take you so far and has been done a lot for films based on TV shows in the past with mixed results.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller call action.
No further cast is lined up.
