Director Gabriele Muccino is in advanced negotiations to helm the sci-fi romance pic Passengers, says Variety.
The film will center on a a spacecraft making a centuries-long interstellar voyage to a new planet. Due to a computer glitch, a single passenger (Keanu Reeves) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he, in turn, awakens a beautiful woman.
Jon Spaihts, who also wrote Ridley Scott's untitled "Alien" prequel film, wrote this script as well.
Stephen Hamel Reeves, and James G. Robinson will produce the film.
Muccino, who did both The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds--earthbound dramas, this seems as though it's gonna only be a change in setting not really genre
Production is set to kick off in the Summer.
