A Lively Shade Of Green

Beating out several candidates like Keri Russell and Jennifer Garner Blake Lively has been cast in the comic book flick Green Lantern says The Heat Vision Blog.

The star of TV's Gossip Girl landed the role of Carol Ferris an aerospace industry executive who meets cocky test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) when he's hired by her company before he's bestowed the power of the Emerald ring. In the comics, her character eventually becomes another super-powered entity, Star Sapphire.

The trade story says that the part called for an older actress, but Lively impressed the studio with her audition and her work in the the more adult-themed drama "The Town." At just 22 though the selection of Lively has still raied a few eyebrows...

I have not seen any of her work really--except as I channel surf in passing--Wait and see with fingers crossed time.

The first draft of the script was written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Michael Goldenberg’s now rewriting it.

Martin Campbell takes the helm when production begins in March with a release date set for June 17, 2011.
