Comics Will Offer "Star Trek Into Darkness" Backstory

IDW Publishing, co-screenwriter Roberto Orci, and comic creators Mike Johnson and Claudia Balboni are teaming up for a comic book mini-series that will explore some of the backstory of bad guy  "John Harrison" aka Khan Noonien Singh (Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch) from "Star Trek Into Darkness".

The six-issue mini-series, called "Star Trek: Khan," will be written by Johnson guided by Orci, and illustrated by Balboni. The first issue is set for release in October.

Johnson told Heat Vision:

"We're traveling back in time to show Khan's rise to power and give fans their first look at the legendary Eugenics Wars. As the series unfolds we will see the events that led to Khan leaving Earth aboard the Botany Bay, and then jump forward to witness his awakening in the future by Admiral Marcus. (Peter Weller)"

Johnson also penned the comics "Star Trek: Countdown" "Star Trek: Nero" and "Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness" which served as prequels to "Star Trek" '09 and STID.
