Favreau Poised To Open The Jungle Book For Disney

"Iron Man" director Jon Favreau is in talks to helm Disney's new live-action film adaptation of author Rudyard Kipling's classic India-set 1894 short story collection called The Jungle Book  says Heat Vision.


The majority of the tales focus on Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves whose friends include a bear named Baloo and a panther by the name of Bagheera. They also encounter a tiger adversary named Shere Khan. 

Justin Marks will write the script.

There are no producers attached yet.

The story has been adapted several times for the screen, most notably as the classic 1967 animated film and again in 1994 as a live-action feature  Jason Scott Lee, Lena Headey and Cary Elwes.

Since the property is in the public domain, Warner Bros is developing its own animated version with Harry Potter film series writer Steve Kloves working on the script.
