Kevin Costner has closed a deal to star in the sports drama "McFarland" says Variety.
The movie is based on the true story of a track-and-field coach living in McFarland, California, in 1980 who put together a team of the mostly Latino youths in his area and tells the story of how they "overcame many social and physical hurdles to become champions."
Director Niki Caro will call action using a script by writer Grant Thompson
Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray ("Miracle," "Invincible") will produce the film.
Costner is no stranger to the sports films with Field of Dreams, Tin Cup, and Bull Durham on his resume..
