After annually ruling the Halloween weekend for years, the Saw franchise began to wane as audiences grew tired of the torture porn, choosing instead the thrills and chills of the micro-budgeted Paranormal Activity film series.
Now, after a three year hiatus, Lionsgate is now actively developing an eighth film in the franchise according to Bloody Disgusting
The studio wants a new direction for the franchise, but aren't rushing to meet a date - instead, they're waiting until they have "the perfect take to move forward".
The studio was originally considering a remake/reboot, but opted for a sequel that could take the series in a new direction.
