An extended trailer for the upcoming sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has arrived from Middle Earth.
Filmmaker Peter Jackson was originally planning to show off five minutes of footage from the second film at last night's fan event--But instead he unspooled a twenty minute reel. Three minutes from that reel has gone online.
The clip and footage featured various key scenes from the giant spider attack in Mirkwood, the barrel scene, Gandalf visiting the haunted fortress of Dol Guldur, and parts of Bilbo's entry into Smaug's I(Benedict Cumberbatch)'s vault.
A one-hour Q&A session with Jackson and various cast members around the globe took place. In short, filming is now done on the trilogy. This year's round of additional shooting took ten weeks and dealt mostly with the third film, but also involved some scenes from 'Smaug'. The full Q&A is online:
