Casey Affleck is attached to star in the dramatic biopic Race to the South Pole says The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is based on the true story of the race between an English explorer Robert Falcon Scott (Casey Affleck) and a Norwegian Roald Amundsen. Both men were trying to become the first to reach the South Pole in the early 1900s, a pursuit which made headlines all over the globe. Amundsen's expedition got their first and returned with no casualties, Scott's expedition was an complete disaster and no-one returned alive.
Peter Glanz will write the screenplay.
Casey's older bro Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Jennifer Todd will produce the film.
No director is attached at this time. It isn't known if either the elder Affleck or Damon have any interest in directing the project, or if they will only produce.
Ben Affleck and Damon are also teaming up on a Untitled Biopic about Boston crime lord Whitey Bulger, with Affleck poised to direct while Damon would star as the criminal.
