Adam Wingard is set to direct "Dead Spy Running"--taking over for Jonathan Levine says Deadline.
Based upon British author Jon Stock's spy novel, the first in a trilogy and that is supposed to reinvent the spy genre by telling the origin story of a newly trained agent--mixing the grittiness of Robert Ludlum with John le Carré's wry wit.
The story has the protagonist running the London Marathon, where a fellow racer is strapped with explosives. The aftermath leads to a globe-trotting adventure to clear the name of the man's father.
Wingard's partner Simon Barrett will rewrite the script that Stephen Gaghan and Jamie Moss penned previously.
Kevin McCormick and McG are producing.
An August 23rd 2013 release date for Wingard's horror thriller "You're Next"has been set. The film follows a family reunion under siege from animal-masked killers.
