Life Of Ryan

CHUD posted an interesting casting rumor- Director Sam Raimi wants his "Spider-Manl " co-star James Franco to play the lead role in his relaunch of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan film series.

The source adds though the studio doesn't think Franco is suitable and so they and Raimi are clashing over the casting - to the point that Raimi may walk away.

Raimi became attached to the project back in March when it was indicated that the studio wanted to restart the franchise with a film that didn't use one of Clancy's books and again recast Ryan as a young CIA analyst which they did in 2002's "The Sum of All Fears". with by Ben Affleck in the role

Casting is crucial. And while I thought Affleck did fine...Others resented his turn as Ryan..Sum did as well the as the other films in the series.

Personally, I think Franco is a fine choice...and could do as well as say Ryan Gosling...maybe this guy can give Franco some tips...

In related Raimi news--the helmer is teaming with Tom Cruise to bring a film adaptation of the comic book "Sleeper" says The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips "Sleeper" centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group, named Miss Misery.

Cruise is loosely attached to star in the adaptation which Raimi would produce and the project could be turned into a possible franchise.

Cruise is attached to several flicks though including the comedy "Food Fight"
