CHUD's Devin Faraci recently spoke with 2 popular directors--who offered up status reports on various flicks they are working on....

United 93 helmer Paul Greengrass confirmed that he indeed had been talking about posibley taking over "The Trial of the Chicago 7 " from Steven Spielberg, but the timing didn't work out and he won't be involved.

Bur Greengrass is hard at work editing his Iraq War drama Green Zone for release next year...

"Smokin' Aces" director Joe Carnahan confirmed reports that Javier Bardem left his drug kingpin biopic "Killing Pablo", but says that the departure happened time ago and he's already replaced him with Edgar Ramirez.

Carnahan adds that Ramirez is taking the role very seriously and is ready to pack on from 35 to 40 pounds to play the late criminal Pablo Escobar...
