New Regency Enterprises has decided to drop the feature film adaptation of classic 80's Japanese anime series "Voltron" putting the progect into turnaround but fear not fans..Relativity Media. is already in negotiations to pick up the property reports Variety:
Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) wrote the script described as "a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders."
Marks' work got rave reviews but Regency was never able to fully complete negotiations with the original rights holders - putting the film in limbo.
The new version at Relativity plans to shoot the film on a more moderate budget using cost-effective filming techniques. A director should be named by next week.
