Paul Weitz (American Pie) is in talks to helm the third installment in the "Meet the Parents" franchise reports Variety.Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are all set to reprise their roles.
John Hamburg is rewriting a script originated by Larry Stuckey.
Weitz replaces Jay Roach is who helmed the first two films.
Two weeks ago, Peter Segal (Get Smart) was briefly considered to helm the project.
Weitz will direct the comedy sequel once he's completed work on the De Niro and Casey Affleck-led adaptation of Nick Flynn's 2004 memoir "Another Bullshit Night In Suck City,".
Since Weitz is already working with De Niro he seems a logical choice to do it--Since the big De can give him a first hand franchise primer.
Production is due to start in July on Fockers.
