Talk about your explosive combinations...
Christian Bale and director David O. Russell are stepping into the ring for "The Fighter" says Variety.
The drama stars Mark Wahlberg as boxer Irish Micky Ward and his unlikely path as world lightweight champion.
Bale plays Dickie Eklund, Mickey's half-brother and a talented fighter who once went the distance with "Sugar" Ray Leonard in a title fight but then turned to crime and landed in prison.
While inside he turned his life around and helped his brother find the spark for a remarkable run that led to the world title.
Director Darren Aronofsky had previously lined up Matt Damon and Brad Pitt for the leads but all three have since tapped out.
Given both Bale and O'Russell's on set reps for outbursts--I would love to be a fly on the wall for filming
Written by Scott Silver and Lewis Colick, the film starts shooting in July.
